My Story

Creativity has always been my passion. My dad used to tease me as a kid, I loved paper, markers, glitter, yarn... pretty much anything crafty. I was always creating something or making something “better.” When I was about 6, I remember driving my mom crazy, she came into my room (which had plaid wallpaper) and I was coloring my wallpaper. Mom asked why I was coloring my wallpaper & I simply told her that I was making it better because it wasn’t finished!! (My poor mom! LOL)

After high school, I worked my way through college as a designer in my hometown florist shop. This is where I first caught the bug!  After working there for many years, I moved on to a larger shop in Dayton.

Once graduating from college with a degree in graphic design/visual communications I figured it was time for a “Big Girl Job” and I pursued several jobs in the advertising & print fields. None of these jobs fed my soul like floral design did. After a few years I felt that I needed to get back to doing what I loved, and I started working for a local floral wholesale company. This was perfect for me at the time!! I took on a management position, I was able to design, work closely with some very talented designers, accompany customers on buying trips and plan events. Several years into this job, one of my customers offered me an opportunity to manage their shop and I embraced that opportunity. This led to a decision to open my own florist and gift shop store front. At the time, this was something I had dreamed about and truly never thought possible. I am so glad that I embraced the opportunity and gave it a shot. Although the store only lasted 3 years (due to changes in my personal life) I have absolutely no regrets of having taken the leap!

The years following the store closing I made A LOT of changes in my personal life, all for the better. I continued to design for family and friends. One day I was doing some design work for my mother-in-law, and she planted the idea in my head to start a side hustle business and thus Emmalily’s Florals was born!! In case you were wondering where the name came from, growing up, my dad called me Emmalily. Little did he know I would grow up to have such a love of flowers!

Last year when I started my staging design business, I wanted to incorporate both businesses together. So now, Emmalily’s Florals is part of Em’s Design Group, and I couldn’t be happier! Spending my days being able to create beautiful things for all my clients, makes work feel like play. Someone once told me “Do something you love, and you will never work a day in your life.” It took me years to figure out just how to do that, but I finally did it!

I'd love it if you would take a minute and jump over to www.EmsDesignGroup.com to see how that business came about. It is an interesting story. I am looking forward to hearing from you and working with you!
